Guide to Shirley

Shirley is a residential area on the borders of The London borough of Bromley. Although close to the hustle and bustle of Croydon, Shirley benefits from being an unspoilt area offering the feel of a village surrounded by lots of green spaces including parks and golf courses.

The majority of the houses were built in the 1930's and the houses are mainly suburban-style semi-detached houses. In Upper Shirley there are very large detached houses in a few exclusive estates with many boasting swimming pools. A few newer developments were created in the 1980's to include Shirley Oaks Village creating smaller flats and houses for first time buyers plus modern styled houses and detached family homes.

Wickham Road runs through the heart of Shirley between Croydon and West Wickham and you can find a variety of shops, restaurants and pubic houses on this road.

Transport links consist of bus and mainline train services from West Wickham and East Croydon station which gives superb access into central London.

The area is also well known for its schools including Trinity School, Shirley Park Golf Course and woodland areas, including Shirley Hills.
